Advertising Policy Guidelines
Income from advertising encourages me to write more tutorials, patch and prepare more Xen kernels and appliances, pester other project leaders for interesting interviews and the rest of the stuff that you find here.
Except for the occasional 200×200 banner that runs in one of the right side bars, you have to work rather hard to find advertisements on this site. Most of them are text links which lead to things that you would likely be interested in seeing. I don’t use JS driven ‘contextual’ ads.
If you are interested in placing text link ads, a small banner on all or select pages, please contact me to discuss the rates.
I don’t do paid reviews of products or services. If you would like me to review something that you offer, you must give it to me free of charge with the understanding that I may write an unfavorable review.
Some things that I will not do:
- I generally frown upon linking to or advertising proprietary software. There are some exceptions, for instance, when government regulations mandate that the source code be kept confidential. In that case, if the software is useful, I’ll link to it. Note: I’m well known for making links in the midst of complaining. If you produce something that facilitates obnoxiousness, don’t call me, I’ll call you.
- I don’t link to or advertise ‘link farms’ or sites that show third party advertisements that fill the majority of every page. I link only to quality sites that are relevant to the text in the link.
- The content in any linked page must be appropriate for all audiences, you must own the copyright of all content on any given page. If you quote and attribute Wikipedia on thousands of pages, I’m not going to link to your web site.
- Broken links are quickly and automatically removed. Please be sure that your page is settled prior to requesting a link.
- I link only to pages that are written in English, or that have an obvious means of translation.
The minimum time for a text link to remain is one year. Banners (sidebar or select page) are available in 90 day slots.
