What the hell, humanitarian dating?

Posted on | September 20, 2008 | 3 Comments

This is going to be a very short rant.

Please, anyone, describe any and all events that led to a dating site just for humanitarians. I can see some potential misconceptions, since we have vegetarians. Some people may therefore confuse humanitarians with cannibals.

Has it gotten that hard to meet people who just want to do good things? I am very happy to be settled down and raising a kid.. I was about to ask what non-humanitarians do on dates however I’m afraid to do so.

What a world.

Many people like to try and challenge and help change the world for the better rather than going along with the flow. These people typically include those that work in the voluntary and not-for-profit sectors. They often feel that they are better suited to a partner with similar ideals and a similar outlook.

Ethicalsingles is a website that helps these like-minded people get together:

Imagine you live in a foreign country surrounded by people who you will never have a romantic connection with. Imagine you work in such an environment where your work day is 20 hours and often in insecure situations. Humanitarian dating connects people working in similar circumstances who know and understand firsthand what the other person might be dealing with. It is very, very hard as an expat international aid worker to make connections for long term relationships. Humanitarian dating simply fills a niche. It also, in my opinion, has nothing to do with doing good or making a difference or any of that BS. People saying I am a do gooder are looking for a fight. That said, I do agree with what the person before me wrote. Most people I know have no clue what I do or why. Yes as a matter of fact, it is that hard to meet people.

@johninuganda: I am also an expat, I have been living in The Philippines for the last five years. In case you missed it, the entire rant was indeed satirical, noting that indeed it is very difficult for idealistic people to meet like minded individuals.

    Fortunately, I’m happily married.
