Can synchronized GNU/Linux releases work?
Tags: Free Software, GNU, gridnix, Linux, Programming, Rants, ubuntu, virtualization
In short, yes but the quality and originality of the releases might dwindle. Mark Shuttleworth (funder and founder of Ubuntu) wants to explore the possibility of all major GNU/Linux distributions releasing new versions on the same schedule. Major distributions would be Red Hat, Debian, Ubuntu, etc.
The idea looks very good on paper. Software developers would [...]
Waves of spam?
Tags: frustrating, security
I’ve noticed something interesting (well, annoying .. but interesting). Every month at around this time, I am bombarded with comment spam that manages to pass through akismet. Then its quiet again for another 30 days.
I’ve turned comments off on most new posts, the spammers seem to be more interested in the older stuff. The fact [...]
Echoreply has gone .geek
For those of you who use OpenNIC , this site can now be accessed via http://echoreply.geek
For more information on why ICANN really means ICANT, read the RegisterFly story. I’m in favor of democratic naming, so I support OpenNIC. I want top level domains that work, without supporting registrars who make millions pre-registering domains while making [...]

New names for the OLPC?

Some suggestions are already floating around:
OLPC -> One License Per Child
OBSPC -> One Blue Screen Per Child
OBNPC -> One Botnet Node Per Child

The maintenance release for SRCE (version 1.0.9) is now available. This release adds some increased security, the ability to have the scheduler drop privileges and numerous other code improvements.
This is technically a ’source maintenance’ release for general housecleaning and closing of old and nagging quirks. Binary and source packages are available, RPM’s probably won’t be [...]
Talk about losing your keys!
I spent the better part of 3 1/2 hours this morning losing my keys. Not my car keys, not my house keys, my public SSH keys. All keys that I have in use were generated on a Debian or Ubuntu GNU/Linux computer. Luckily I’m pretty diligent about keeping a list of what key is where [...]

Today, I enjoyed the most inane conversation of this year for sure. If you thought that “spaghetti code” was bad, read this. Corey blogged our conversation.
Sometimes diving into nonsense helps keep your sanity.
Its funny, laugh.
